New Heaton is lucky to have two excellent full time
employees; |
|
Peter Cockburn (left) has been milking cows since
the age of nine, firstly at home on the family farm, but for over 30 years he
has worked for the Douglas family. He is highly regarded as a safe pair of
hands, who is not afraid to speak his mind. |
|
Stephen Nelson (right) has been at New Heaton for a
decade now, and also has dairying in his blood. His father was at the Eshott
Herd, and his brother Paul, worked at Hunday, and is now at Eachwich. Stephen is
a cow whisperer, great with stock and he serves all the cows, being responsible
for the excellent herd fertility. The calving interval is a mere 400 days. |
|
Bob Douglas (right) and his wife Susie (bottom right) do
what they can!
Providing an extra pair of hands outside as needed
and running the paperwork and operations side of the business. |
|
Gemma Irving is a new addition to the team at New Heaton,
living locally, and with previous experience rearing calves at Cogent, as well
as helping her father with the Flodden herd of Texels and Aberdeen Angus, she
has a wealth of experience and lots of enthusiasm. A real sucker for a good
Jersey (breeding will out), Gemma is very actively involved in rearing and
nurturing the next generation at New Heaton, and is keenly involved with
preparing and training our stock to sell at Carlisle. |

We appreciate all help provided from external sources such
as Peter Townley and his team at Genus who are responsible for all embryo
transfer work and Sarah Liddle for her expertise with the clippers and indeed
this website! Mark K Jackson photography (Edinburgh) is to be credited for the
